The Carisma is manufactured by

By 1999 the Carisma was in its second iteration and with Mitsubishi’s rally presence now placed firmly on the Lancer, the Carisma’s image was now a far cry from the fire breathing rally car of the mid 90’s.

In fact thanks to its namesake, it’s now ‘bland’ image had turned the perceptibly uncharismatic ‘Carisma’ into the motoring presses favourite joke.

However, as with most cars the motoring press turn into a comedy act, the Carisma, underneath its ironic name, is actually a fantastic little car.

This example is a 1999 ‘W’ plate ‘Equippe’ spec car with a 1.8 GDI and a four speed automatic, to really double down on the mundanity.

Outside the metallic navy blue paintwork is in good shape, with a few age related car park scratches and small dents but nothing obvious. The car sports all four Equippe wheeltrims (the last of which was finally located in the Netherlands) plus all its very proud ‘GDI’ badging.

Inside is equally blue, blue seats, blue dash, blue doorcards, blue everything. The radio/cassette with separate head up dash display still works perfectiy, as do the electric front windows, electric mirrors and electric sunroof.

The 1.8 GDI has a surprising amount of poke and the four speed automatic is, well, it’s a four speed auto, so it does what it’s meant to do.

As a usable old Liftback the Carisma is definitely a rarity, one of 15 currently registered. Parts aren’t too complex to find but whatever you do, don’t lose a wheel trim. It’s pretty economical, quick enough to enjoy and it’ll take a full shop and the kids school bags with no problem at all.

Tickets will launch on May 2nd and the LIVE draw will be on Sunday 7th June 2026 at 8:30pm
